The Unpredictable Plant

I’m reading Eugene Peterson’s book on Jonah, Under the Unpredictable Plant. I always like reading Peterson. He says what I need to hear. Not necessarily what I want to hear or like to hear, but definitely what I need. He pushes and prods me away from a solely “professional” view of ministry that is so easy to fall into in our culture and in many congregations, mine included. Reading him makes me want to explore the role of “Spiritual Director” more fully.

One question I have for Peterson: “What do you say to the person with an entrepreneurial personality who finds him/herself pastoring a congregation? Is there any room in your model of congregational leadership for a Spiritual Entrepreneur?”

So, what are you thinking?
