The Divine Potter

A couple of days ago I finished Absolute Truths by Susan Howatch. It’s the final book in her Church of England series. It was a beautiful ending to one of my favorite series of novels not involving explosions and espionage. Near the end of the book, Howatch has her main character thumb through an Austin Farrer book and read this quote:

“The skill of the divine potter is an infinite patience of improvisation. No sooner has one work gone awry than his fingers are pressing it into the form of another. There is never a moment for the clay, when the potter is not doing something with it. God is never standing back and watching us; his fingers are on us all the time.”

I love that last line.

So, what are you thinking?
