Living in Between the Miracles

I’m calling my series of sermons from Proverbs “Living in Between the Miracles: Ancient Wisdom for Everyday Life.”

This comes from a line in the opening message when I was introducing the series. Miracles are cool and we love it when they happen, but what about the days, weeks, years, and decades that pass in between the miracles? How do we live as God’s people when the heavens aren’t flashing miraculous and the mighty acts of God aren’t shaking the ground beneath our feet? Enter Proverbs.

Having a title for my series is more for my benefit than the congregation’s. I probably won’t mention the title on Sundays. I guess it just helps me keep my messages unified under some kind of theme.

We’re three weeks into the series and we’re having a great time. The first week I taught about the nature of biblical wisdom, including its limits. Last week it was “the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” This Sunday I’m talking about “The Simpleton’s Choice” out of Proverbs 9. Read Proverbs 9 and decide: with whom will you dine?

So, what are you thinking?
