I signed up for the Blockbuster online membership and they’re sending me movies as fast as I can watch them and send them back. I need a project, so I’ve decided to make sure I’ve seen all of the movies on the AFI’s 100 Greatest Movies list. I’ve seen most of the more recent ones, but I’ve got major gaps when it comes to the old stuff. So last night we watched “Citizen Kane.” I can see why it’s always at the top of these kind of lists. I had heard enough about “Rosebud” to know what was coming, but it didn’t spoil anything for me. It wasn’t a “Sixth Sense” kind of twist. Quite astonishing that Orson Wells wrote it, directed it, produced it, and starred in it, all at the tender age of 25.
Next up: Lawrence of Arabia.
