We are supposed to leave this Sunday afternoon for a ten day vacation in Destin, Florida. I’m not sure what the plan is now. Destin got a good dose of Hurrican Dennis yesterday and we’re not sure what awaits us there if we head in that direction.
Update: There’s still no word from the condo. Got some discouraging news from someone down that way. They said start working on Plan B. Still don’t know what we’re going to do.
Updated update: Our reservation has been cancelled because of inaccessibility. Plan B is now in full effect.
One More Update: Plan B has been activated. Reservations in Panama City. Rock on.
From East Alabama: One of my employees is also planning to go to Destin late this week. His checks with his hotel and other people indicate there was little damage or disruption. Unless the next tropical depression heads that way, you should have a good trip.
I’m from the other side of the bay from Destin in Niceville (the town everyone drives through to get to Destin). The word I heard was that there was some erosion on the beaches, but it didn’t wipe out Hwy 98 a usually happens. My bet is the area will still be running business as usual (gotta get those tourist bucks), but that things will be a little messy still. Trees down, some roof damage, perhaps a stray boat on land or two, maybe still some power down. Who knows? But have fun if you go and say hello for me to the best beaches in the U.S.
If you get bored on your vacation (haha) I’ll meet you in Mobile for coffee and chat. Really, I would love that. Realistically, enjoy your visit to Destin!
US 98 according to the NW FL Daily News was damaged in Dennis’ visit. I’d suggest heading to their website, also the “Destin Log”. I’m in Valparaiso, just across the bay from Destin. Haven’t been out there since Dennis. Another source of information might be Village Baptist church, they are at the S end of Destin, and First Baptist – on Church street downtown. If you are on the South end – Sandestin – you should be okay.
Grace!
