  2. man brad beat me too it. Great line up though

  3. You guys haven’t heard of the John Alan Turney from California? He’s written a bunch of stuff. Maybe you’re thinking of someone else. . .

  4. I actually like that guy.

  5. Diversity Guy says:

    Hey Wade,

You don’t know me, but I should have emailed you before about diversity issues regarding the workshop. I am amazed that working with some of the progressive black churches could be a segway to exposing the workshop to our African American brothers. Ken Greene is not the only one. He is a minister in a church of less than 300. How about Dr. Seamster from Light of the World. His praise team are incredible. Psallo praise team from california. Carey Dowl preacher at New Hope church of christ in sunnyvalve texas. Howard Wright Greenbriar Church of christ in Atlanta Ga. Some of these people have challenged their congregations to be open to new ideas. The workshop have said let’s get together with the Christian church which is fine, but what about our african- american churches. Most segregated our- Sunday. What about segregated workshops. Something to think about. I know you are young and open to other ideas. Might be late for next year, but you will have a chance the next time you host. Jerome Williams was new at one time. Where is his replacement? Then again that might not be your style. Anyway, something to consider.

  6. I see the women are left out again as well!!

  7. Women speaking at the workshop? Let the women keep silent in the chu…. oh, wait, we’ve misused that. I know, a woman shall not teach or exercise auth….. uh….no, we’ve abused that one too. Hmmm…………. Well, why not let ’em speak??!!

  8. Wade,
Thank you for working so hard and putting together a very provocative program this year. It’s easy to spot holes, but I know from our conversations how much time and energy you put into making this year as diverse as possible — especially seeking out representation from African-American churches. I know you’re catching a lot of heat for including the Instrumental wing, and I appreciate your efforts toward building greater unity among our peculiar corner of Christendom.

And I’m not just saying this because I’m on the program!

    Though that helps.

  9. Diversity Guy says:

    Again,

I hope no took my comments as getting on to Wade. I was just making a suggestions. I am for women speaking and welcome my Christian church brothers. I just hate that we have not made major strides in closing the racial gap that still exist in this country. I am a believer that with God all things are possible. Black and white worshiping together can happen if those who are in the leadership position are intentional in making it happen. I can say these things till I am blue in the face but as a minority my voice is not as strong as others. So, I would say don’t discount my suggestion or take it as an insult to Wade. I did no such things. Brothers and sisters let’s give each other the benefit of our intentions. If I have read this wrong, I apologize upfront, but I was not attacking wade or anyone with my suggestions. Let’s go out and do some real good by showing others Jesus everyday. Peace, Diversity Guy

  10. Diversity Guy,
I didn’t write that to scold you at all. I wrote that to encourage Wade. I actually agree with you about the need for leaders to be intentional about racial unity. And I know for a fact that Wade is being intentional about reaching out to leaders in the African-American Churches of Christ.

Please don’t hear any kind of defensiveness. Just encouraging Wade to keep up his excellent work.

  11. I’ve undoubtedly already made a ton of mistakes in putting this program together that I’m not even aware of yet. It’ll be up to God to make this workshop a success.

John Alan–thanks for the encouragement. I’m glad you’re on the program and I’m glad we finally got your name spelled right.

Diversity Guy–your comments are appreciated. I’d appreciate them even more if you would stop entering a fake email address in order to subvert the comment procedure. If you can’t do that, then at least stop hiding behind a screen name. Kind of hard to have a conversation with someone who is intentionally cloaked in anonymity. I’m well aware of the lack of balance in the workshop program. I’d love to see more African-Americans and Hispanics and Asians on the program. We’ll keep working on it in the years to come. I am pleased that Ken Greene and Jerry Taylor agreed to be on the program. I’m especially excited about the fact that Jerry is going to preach at Garnett on the Sunday after the workshop. It’ll be a treat for us all.

Holly–with respect to Charme Robarts, Sherrylee Woodward, and Mariana Long, I don’t think the women have been left out this year. Again, I’d love to see more women on the program. I had in fact invited two other well-known women speak on the program but they were unavailable. At the very least, all of the sessions these women will be teaching will be open to all and will not be labelled as special classes for women only.

We’ve still got a lot of work to do on this one. Please be praying that what we do will bring glory to God and will be good for the world.

So, what are you thinking?
