Yesterday we fished for perch (Caleb caught the biggest perch I’ve ever seen), swung from a tree into one of the deep holes in the creek that crosses my parent’s ranch, and drove into Austin for a great meal at Z’Tejas. (Good grief it a was a fine meal. Z’Tejas just catapulted onto my list of favorite restaurants.)
Today was spent either in the house or out surveying damage on the ranch. The pond is overflowing, the creek is raging, and even the grass is muddy. Part of the road is washed out and a good bit of fence is gone. Dad is going to have a lot of cleaning up to do. Unfortunately, I’ve got to head back to Tulsa before the rain is predicted to clear out of here and the clean up begins. 🙂
We got in the car this afternoon and tried to get to a store to get some groceries but all major roadways were blocked.
Last night, we got about six to seven inches of rain here. Thirty minutes up the road, in Marble Falls, they got almost 19 inches of rain over a span of about 8 hours. The weatherman just said that having that amount of rainfall in that short of a time is something that is expected to happen once every 500 years.
More rain is expected tomorrow and Friday.
Wow. Meanwhile, Heard Co. Georgia has run out of water and is draining quarries and buying water from neighboring counties. Odd days indeed.
Picture worlds biggest Perch maybe?
