Recovered

I think I’ve just about recovered from the workhop. Last week was really difficult. I was pumped because of the way the workshop went and all the positive feedback we received. At the same time I was depressed. I had a major case of the post-event doldrums. The workshop had been an open program on my desktop for months. Suddenly, it was over. It felt just like post-vacation letdown, only a little bit worse. I should have gone on vaction last week. Even though I was in the office, I wasn’t really here. If I had gone on vacation last week then I guess that would mean I’d have post-vacation letdown this week. Since I feel ok now, maybe I did the right thing. We do have a vacation coming up in a few weeks. I’m ready.

One of the first things I did on my first day off after the workshop was go to Borders and buy The Last Word by N. T. Wright. I’ll be blogging about it later. I continue to be amazed at Wright’s ability to write about a wide variety of topcis in such fresh and understandable ways.

I’m off to lead a discussion about Scripture at the Tulsa Emergent Cohort. I’m finding these discussions and the community growing out of them to be wonderfully enriching.

Comments

  1. What do you talk about?

  2. You’ll love The Last Word. One of the best books I’ve readin a while. Wright is a deep thinker but very approachable. you don’t have to be a Biblical scholar to read this book. Enjoy!

  3. What was the “final” word on the authority of scripture? I’m not in a good place with regards to my understanding of narrative vs. systematic. Any good resources to which I can be directed?

  4. Todd–You really can do no better than Wright’s “The Last Word.” It is really helpful. For a shorter treatment–check out Wright’s articel” How the Bible can be authoritative”
