Cabo San Lucas

We spent a fantastic week in Cabo San Lucas. Absolutely beautiful in a Mexican desert sort of way. Perfect weather. We sat by the pool. We snorkelled in the Sea of Cortez. We ate chips and salsa for breakfast, lunch, dinner and breakfast.

We had a family at Garnett give us a week there in their time share. We used a family connection to score ridiculously cheap airfare. It was a good thing too. Once we got down there, we found ourselves spending way more money than we anticipated. You go into a restaurant and order a coke because you’re not supposed to drink the water. They bring a can of coke and pour it in a glass for you. You order two more before the meal is finished. You get the bill and see that each coke cost you $3.50. If that’s how much they charge for a coke, forget about ordering a margarita.

I’m a sucker for Chile Rellenos. I can’t help but order them in just about every Mexican restaurant I go into. I had some at Mi Casa that blew me away. Great tasting meat stuffed in a pepper and then smothered in a walnut cream sauce.

I’ve got a couple of stories to tell you soon. One is about the flight back and the other is about about what happens when a pushy time share salesperson locks horns with a burned out preacher who just wants to be left alone.

Comments

  1. Give us the pushy time share person story first.

    Everybody needs some time away.

    Peace.

  2. Been there a few times. Costa Rica is the new Cabo. You can live on $40.00 a day in Coastal Costa Rica. Cabo use to be fun years ago. It’s lost it’s luster.

  3. With regards to the Time Share Salesman: Been there, done that. Waiting to hear the rest of the story…..(Paul Harvey style).
Hope you’re renewed in spirit….also you missed a great 24 episode.
Hopefully, you recorded it!!! Love the Mexican cuisine immensely as well.

  4. Wade,

Sounds like you had a restful vacation in Cabo San Lucas. Thank God for the generosity of others!

Question: What’s worse than a pushy timeshare salesperson?

    Story:

My family took a whirlwind trip over the weekend (actually Thurs. – Mon., guess that’s a really long weekend) to OKC/Edmond for my oldest son’s college graduation. It was, generally speaking, a wonderful trip.

I was collecting my thoughts and jotting some notes for a post titled: Traveling Is Good For the Soul. I say was, because I put the idea on hold after my dear wife, with her 80+ year old mother at her side spent almost 20 minutes having every item in her carry on luggage examined. Her soul was in great distress. I’ll come back to the idea later. For now, I’m just glad that she made her flight and we all made safely back to our comfy cottage here in Delaware.

Answer: A group of hyperactive, over zealous TSA officers at Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City.

  5. Hey Wade.

Picked up a CD I think you’ll like, it’s the new Snow Patrol. Knowing what little I know about your musical tastes, I’m pretty sure you’ll enjoy it. It’s called “eyes open” and I think you can stream it in it’s entirety at AOL music. Song number 3 “chasing cars” is amazing!

    Kelly.

  6. Isn’t Mi Casa great? Did you go to the one in the city with the open air center area?

Those time share guys are good aren’t they. They’d make great preachers (in some ways).

Glad you guys went, did it, and came back. The world seems back in order now that comments are allowed again.

  7. Glad you are on your way back. I enjoy the blogs and sermons, Greg did a great job filling in. See you and Heather soon, Lynn

  8. Sam Middlebrook says:

Well – we could have had Mi Casa together! I was staying at Playa Grande, which is just on the other side of the arch from where you were. I jet-skied right through the arch during a set of waves, and that was pretty cool.

We left just before the Rolex World Cup of Sportfishing started, and I wish I could have hung around to see that.

I had the Shrimp Imperial at Mi Casa, and let’s be honest – it doesn’t matter what you order as long as you put it in one of those tortillas!

So, what are you thinking?
