Several weeks ago, I shared in a sermon that there is still a part of me that sometimes doubts that God’s love for me is unconditional. Afterward, a gentleman told me that he could tell from what I said that I’ve never had a direct experience of the Holy Spirit, because if I had, I wouldn’t struggle with such doubts.
Sigh.
Having a direct experience of the Holy Spirit may take away your doubts, but it doesn’t necessarily give you wisdom for how to be an encouragement to doubters.
Hogwash. 🙂 You have a “direct experience of the Holy Spirit” each time He calms you when you’re mourning, or your guides you to God’s word when human impulse would have you lead another way – or gives you hope when life has handed you a 55 gallon drum full of lemons. I think that’s what makes faith what it is…
And yes, I agree… I would think if one had a “direct experience of the Holy Spirit” in some life-altering manner, his love, consideration and wisdom would be increased exponentially in the same manner that his doubt was removed. Jesus didn’t walk around saying “nanny-nanny-boo-boo, I have God, but do you?”… He instead loved people into loving God.
Christ said we’d have to take up our cross daily…full agreement with you
I know that guy. He’s everywhere. I wanna slap him, but I just gotta love him.
That was a good one. Finishing up your book. Thanks for sharing, it is a helpful read.
Thanks Darin. I appreciate you reading the book!
